Making Progress on Autonomy
AIAA has taken proactive steps to establish autonomy as a vital component of the Aerospace R&D Domain, as part of AIAA’s new Domain approach. During November, we convened more than 80 thought leaders in Washington, DC, for the AIAA Aerospace Autonomy Summit to exchange ideas and make plans toward a national R&D plan for autonomous capability for aerospace. AIAA is committed to convening our community on this topic and we will keep pushing for outcomes to maintain the momentum. You can read a summary of the themes we discussed during the summit in the Flight Path article in the December issue of Aerospace America.

New Domain Approach Gains Leadership
We have made great strides in establishing the Domain approach around Aeronautics, Aerospace R&D, and Space. I’m pleased to announce our Domain leaders:
-
Ming Chang, AIAA Domain Leader for Aeronautics
-
Scott Fouse, AIAA Domain Leader for Aerospace R&D
-
Julie Van Kleek, AIAA Domain Leader for Space
These three industry leaders may be familiar faces to you based on their career accomplishments. We are excited they have agreed to serve in these new roles. Ming, Scott, and Julie have been getting even more familiar with the Institute over the past month, receiving briefings from AIAA staff on current operations and opportunities. Scott was able to join the AIAA Aerospace Autonomy Summit in person and Julie was able to join 2021 ASCEND in person. You’ll hear directly from them early in the new year about their outlook on their Domain. Please lend them your full support as they help us move AIAA forward.
Get Smart(er) With Timely Courses
